NEET UG Re-Exam Ends Under Unprecedented Security, Candidates Say Physics Was Toughest. After weeks of uncertainty and controversy, more than 22 lakh medical aspirants finally completed the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on Saturday. Conducted under some of the strictest security arrangements ever seen for a national entrance test, the day brought a mix of relief, anxiety and cautious optimism for students and parents alike.
The re-test was held across 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 international locations after the original examination conducted in May was cancelled amid allegations of a question paper leak.
For many students, Sunday marked the end of a stressful chapter that had stretched over several weeks.
Tight Security Dominated the Day
From biometric verification and metal detectors to CCTV surveillance and signal jammers, authorities left little to chance this time.
Heavy police deployment was visible outside examination centres, while candidates underwent multiple rounds of checking before entering exam halls. In several cities, parents waited outside for hours as students sat through one of the country’s most important entrance examinations.
Many candidates felt the arrangements were far stricter compared to the previous examination.
“There was definitely more security this time. After everything that happened over the last month, everyone just wanted a fair exam,” said a candidate after coming out of a centre in Delhi.
Physics Emerges as the Toughest Section
As students exited centres, a common theme began to emerge.
Most candidates described Biology as relatively straightforward and in line with expectations. Chemistry was rated moderate, although many felt it was time-consuming. Physics, however, appeared to be the section that troubled candidates the most.
Several students said the Physics paper was lengthy and required careful time management.
While detailed analysis from experts is expected in the coming days, early reactions suggest that the overall paper ranged from moderate to slightly difficult.
Relief More Than Celebration
Unlike the excitement usually associated with the end of NEET, this year’s atmosphere was noticeably different.
For many aspirants, the re-exam represented another month of preparation, emotional stress and uncertainty after the cancellation of the earlier test.
Parents waiting outside centres spoke about the pressure students had gone through over the past few weeks. Some candidates admitted that they simply wanted the examination process to conclude smoothly.
“There wasn’t the same enthusiasm as the first time. Everyone was praying that nothing went wrong again,” said a parent outside an examination centre.
Focus Now Shifts to Answer Keys and Results
With the examination now over, attention will gradually move towards provisional answer keys, expert paper analysis and expected cut-offs.
Coaching institutes are expected to release memory-based solutions and subject-wise reviews in the coming days, giving students a better understanding of their performance.
For lakhs of candidates, the waiting game begins once again.
A Test Beyond Academics
The NEET UG 2026 re-examination was about more than just marks and rankings.
For students, it was an attempt to regain confidence after weeks of controversy. For authorities, it was an opportunity to restore faith in a system that had come under intense scrutiny.
Whether the extensive security measures and fresh examination succeed in rebuilding trust will become clearer in the weeks ahead.
But for now, one thing is certain—the country’s largest medical entrance examination has finally crossed one of its most challenging phases.
