Mumbai University has officially released the first merit list for Undergraduate admissions for the 2026-27 academic session, bringing both excitement and anxiety for thousands of students across Maharashtra. Candidates who applied for courses like BA, BCom, and BSc can now check their names in the merit list through the university admission portal and respective college websites.

Soon after the merit list was released, students rushed online to check cut-offs, compare percentages, and confirm whether they had secured seats in their preferred colleges. Several college websites also witnessed heavy traffic as students continuously refreshed pages to view the first admission list.

Admission Season Begins Across Mumbai Colleges

With the release of the first merit list, the admission process has now officially entered its most important phase. Students selected in the first round must complete document verification and fee payment between May 27 and May 29, 2026.

For many students, especially those aiming for top Mumbai colleges, this period is extremely important because even a small delay in verification or payment could result in cancellation of the allotted seat.

Parents are also actively involved in the process, helping students arrange documents, check college notices, and understand admission guidelines.

High Competition Expected This Year

Education experts believe competition for popular courses is likely to remain high this year, especially in commerce and science streams. Colleges in South Mumbai and other reputed institutions are expected to witness higher cut-offs due to increasing applications.

Many students have already started discussing expected second and third merit list cut-offs on social media and student forums.

According to university officials, admissions are being granted based on Class 12 marks using the “best five” subjects formula followed by Mumbai University.

Students Asked to Keep Documents Ready

Candidates shortlisted in the merit list are required to upload important documents during the online verification process. These include:

  • Class 10 and 12 marksheets
  • Aadhaar card
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Transfer certificate
  • Domicile certificate
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)

Students from boards outside Maharashtra may also need to submit migration certificates during admission confirmation.

Officials have advised students to carefully check all uploaded documents to avoid rejection during verification.

More Merit Lists Coming Soon

Mumbai University has confirmed that additional merit lists will be released after the completion of the first admission round, depending on vacant seats in colleges and courses.

As per the current schedule:

  • Second merit list will be released on May 30
  • Third merit list is expected on June 4

Meanwhile, the university has also extended the last date for postgraduate admission registration till May 30, giving relief to students applying for master’s degree programmes.

Students Eagerly Waiting for Dream College Confirmation

For many Class 12 pass-outs, Mumbai University admissions mark the beginning of a new academic journey. Students are now closely monitoring college-wise cut-offs and hoping to secure seats in their dream colleges before the admission process concludes.

Several coaching experts say the coming weeks will remain stressful for students as competition continues to rise across major undergraduate courses.
