WHO has launched the global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2014-23 for strengthening the safety, effectiveness and quality of Traditional and Complementary Medicine.
With the support of the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, WHO developed this app for supporting the implementation of this strategy and to encourage people for practicing quality yoga easily with just a touch on the screen of their smartphone.
The WHO mYoga App was launched by Honourable PM Narendra Modi while he was addressing Seventh International Yoga Day. He expressed his hope that this app will provide help for spreading Yoga and will also contribute to efforts of the “One World, One Health”.
The Prime Minister also said that this app will be very helpful in keeping people healthy in this pandemic situation. It will have a great role in the re-rehabilitation of the health of the people who have recovered from Covid-19.
The app envisaged the concept of “Be Healthy, Be Mobile” under the United Nations SDG for achieving Universal Health Coverage by the year 2030. BHBM initiative is a global partnership that is led by the WHO. It supports the scaling up of the technology of mobile health in the scope of NHS to combat various non-communicable diseases.
Features of the WHO mYoga App:
It provides Yoga learning and various practice sessions of different durations. It was developed by scientific of literature review and the processes of the extensive consultation of the international expert. This app is totally safe and secure and does not collect any data from the users.
It can be used as a companion for daily yoga for the interested persons of the wide range of age group of 12 years to 65 years. The app is available in both Hindi and English along with the other UN languages which will follow in upcoming months.
The app consists of various videos’ and audios’ collection which comprises of the practice sessions. The videos can either be downloaded for watching offline or it can be streamed. Further, the users can perform yoga easily in their homes themselves according to their timings.
For achieving various objectives, a memorandum of understanding has been signed in the month of July, 2019 between the Ministry of AYUSH and WHO. The project of m-Yoga focuses on the following areas-
- Yoga for resilience and mental health.
- Yoga for those who are Pre-diabetics.
- Common Yoga Protocol for people’s General Wellness of various durations (10 minutes, 20 minutes and 45 minutes).
- Yoga for the Adolescents.
Some of the asanas which are covered in learning modules are-
The sessions of 20 minutes and 45 minutes will contain some additional exercises such as Shalabhasana, Vakrasana, etc.

The WHO mYoga App can be downloaded by the following procedure-
