The IAS Competitive Exam comprises two successive stages i.e. Civil Services (Preliminary) & Main Exam. The IAS Pre exam is objective type for the selection of candidates for the Main Exam. The preliminary Exam will consist of two papers of objective type and carry a max 400 marks.

This exam is meant to serve as a screening test only, the marks obtained in the IAS Pre exam by the applicants who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Exam.

UPSC CSE Prelims Exam Pattern 2021:

The exam shall comprise of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Both the question papers will be of the objective type (Multiple choice questions). The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services Prelims Exam will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.

UPSC IAS 2021 Selection Process:

The Civil Services / IAS exam will be held in many recruitment phases. The IAS Selection process comprises three consecutive levels:

  • Civil Services Preliminary Exam: This is the 1st Stage to shortlist aspirants for IAS/Civil Services Main Examination. IAS Prelims Exam will be available with objective type questions. It is qualifying nature and marks obtained by the candidates will be counted to qualified for Main Examination
  • Civil Service Main Exam: This is the second stage exam to shortlist aspirants for next level. This exam consists of written examination and personal interview.
