What is UPI?

Unified Payment Interface is a payment system developed by the National Payment Corporation of India. UPI allows you to transfer money between any two parties via smartphone through a payment identifier like a virtual address or Account number and IFSC.

UPI is available on which platforms?

What is MPIN?

MPIN is mobile internet banking transaction password that would have been given to you at the time of account opening. You can generate one by entering your Debit cards last six digits and expiry date. MPIN is usually of 4 character length with a value ranging from 0 to 9.

Is UPI safe?

Yes. Transactions are 2 FA authorized. In a layman term, two rounds of verification would be done for each transaction. For Example PNB Smartz a UPI App would request login password and MPIN to transfer money to the third party.

What are the requirements for using UPI App?

How do I register for the UPI application?

  • Tap CLICK ME to verify your mobile number. A silent SMS will be sent from your mobile for verification. The SMS should be sent from the mobile number registered with the bank accounts. In case of dual- SIM phones, please ensure the SMS is delivered from the mobile number registered with the bank (Please keep the registered SIM in the 1st slot).
  • After your mobile number is verified, the New Registration screen is displayed. Fill in the required details.
  • Create six digits numeric password for logging in to the application and confirm the same.

What is `Virtual Address`? How do I create one?

Virtual Address is created for your bank account which acts as a unique identifier to be used for performing the transactions. To send money, you just need to enter the virtual address of the beneficiary.

What can be beneficiary address?

  • Enter VPA- Virtual Address
  • Or Mobile Number +MMID (7 digit number shared by Bank)
  • Or Bank Account Number +IFSC Code

Can I keep more than one Virtual Address for an account?

Yes, for a given bank account, more than one virtual address up to a maximum of 10 can exist.

Can I transfer money abroad using UPI?

No, only domestic transactions can be done.

What happens if my mobile phone is being used by other person or is lost?

The UPI app authenticates your identity through the mobile number. In case of theft, get your mobile number blocked through your service provider. Also, the PIN would be required both for logging into the application and authorizing the transaction. So the possibility of a security breach is minimized. As a practice, never disclose your PIN to anyone.
