Punjab Police Constable Recruitment 2021- Department of Punjab Police has been issued a recruitment notification for 1180 Intelligence Assistant & Constable posts. Eligible candidates may apply online before 16 August 2021.

Punjab Police is recruiting Indian citizens for the post of Intelligence Assistant in Intelligence Cadre and Constable in Investigation Cadre. The process for online application and submission of the forms starts at 9 pm on 26-07-2021. The process for online application and submission of the forms will close by 11:55 pm sharp on 16-08-2021. Introduction of Punjab Police Constable Vacancies 2021

The recruitment of Punjab Police does not include the vacancies reserved for sports quota.

The recruitment process will include four different processes each having certain parameters for qualification. These include 

  • The Application Form
  • CBT or Computer Based Examination
  • PMT or Physical Measurement Examination
  • PST or physical Screening Examination

The applicants will need to provide their chosen cadres according to their preferences while filling up the common application form. The selection of the candidates will be made based on their merits from the various tests. The allotment of the cadres will depend on their preferences as well as their merits. If a candidate selects a single cadre while making the application, he/she will only be considered for that specific cadre.


The deployment or posting of the selected candidates can be anywhere in the state of Punjab or India. They can also be deployed abroad. As the vacancies for are made for the State Headquarter based in SAS Nagar or Chandigarh. Hence, the newly recruited candidates may get deployed in Chandigarh. The candidates must be made aware that no one can be transferred from one cadre to another as depicted in Section 4(b) of Punjab Police Act, 2007.

Important details of Punjab Police IA & Constable Posts

  1. It is informed that the vacancies for the various posts can be altered by the Government or the Police of Punjab any time without providing prior notifications to the applicants. The seats can be increased as well as decreased as decided by the authorities.
  2. Scheduled Caste reservation should be implemented strictly as depicted in the Punjab SC and Backward Classes Act, 2006, along with the orders and instructions of government of Punjab.
  3. Reservation for the Ex-Servicemen/wife/child/grandchild of winners of Gallantry Award should be implemented following the Punjab Recruitment of Ex- Servicemen Rules, of 1982, along with the orders and instructions of government of Punjab.
  4. Central forces of Police that are CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, CISF are ineligible for the criteria for recruitment of Ex-servicemen.
  5. Reservation of the EWS should strictly follow the instructions for the Social Security department of the state as well as Women and Child Department in the branch of Social Security. The notification number is G.S.R.87/Const/Arts 309 and 15/2020 which is dated on 21.10.2020.

  7. Reservation of wards of the Freedom Fighters should follow the instructions and orders of the Government of Punjab.

Reservation of the children of the deserving policemen that take up 2% of the total seats for direct recruitment should strictly follow the orders and instructions from the Government of Punjab as per the memo no. 1(211)94-2H(1)/10176 which is dated 11.06.1996. It suggests that the wards of personnel of police that have suffered permanent disabilities or casualties for acting against identified terrorists or those been awarded with the Gallantry awards such as the President’s Police Medal or the Police medal for Gallantry should be eligible for the application.

Pay Scale for Punjab Police Constable Recruitment 2021

The in-house committee of the department of finance recommended that the pay scale should be fixed for Constables at 19,900/- rupees which is the minimum admissible pay at the Level 2 of the 7th Pay Matrix vide the Letter No. FD-FP-10MISC/87/2020-2FP1 on 29 December 2020 and the conditions are-

  1. The minimum admissible pay will be provided to the recruited candidates for the 3yrs of probation without any increment following the notification number 7/204/2015-4FP1/66 of 15 January, 2015 as well as 7/204/2015-4FP1/853793 on 04 October, 2016 issued by the Finance Department of the Punjab Government. It also states that only travelling allowances will be provided to the employees.
  2. Other than the minimum pay, decisions should be taken regarding the other allowances later.
  3. No revision of the matrix for pay scale will be there in the receipt of 6th Pay Commission.
  4. Eligibility Requirements


All the applicants must be Indian Citizens and they must not hold the citizenship/green card/permanent residency of another country.

Eligibility criteria & Age Limit for Punjab Police Constable & IA Bharti-

The eligibility criteria for age should follow-

  • Minimum age – 21 years as on 1st January, 2021
  • Maximum age – 28 years as on 1st January2021

Relaxation is applicable as follows:

  1. Age relaxation of up to 5 (five) years is provided to the applicants belonging to the reserved category (caste reservation). Therefore, the candidates on 1st January 2021 must be below 33 years of age.
  2. The ex-servicemen residing in Punjab should deduct the number of years of their work in armed forces from their age. If the result is below the maximum age in eligibility criteria, they can apply for the reserved category for recruitment.
  3. Those, who are serving the State Government or the Central Government will be provided with an age relaxation of 5 (five) years. Therefore, the maximum age for them should be 33.

Criteria for Educational Qualification

The educational qualification of the candidates opting for the post of Intelligence Assistant in Intelligence Cadre should be:

Graduated in any subject from a recognized Institution or University and must also hold an ‘Outstanding’ level Information Technology certificate from NIELIT

The educational qualification for candidates opting for the post of Constable in Investigation Cadre should be:

The candidate must have graduated from any recognized Institution or University or equivalent.

Note: The applicants must have the required educational qualification prior to the closing date of the application submission.

Mandatory Educational Qualification

  1. Matriculation exam must be passed by the candidates with Punjabi language or equivalent examination in Punjabi Language.
  2. If a police personnel ward is resident of the state, and is recruited directly in the criteria for wards of Personnel of Police, will need to pass a matriculation standard equivalent exam in the Punjabi language or will have to pass a Language Wing test under the Punjab Government’s Education Department within a given period of 2 years from appointment. 
  3. The candidates must upload the required certificates by proving their eligibility for the reservation at the time of the submission of application forms.

Required Physical Standards

Standard criteria for height must be met by the candidates for qualification for the seats.

Minimum height that is required for Intelligence Cadre

  • Male: 5’5” (5 feet and 5inches)
  • Female: 5’1” (5 feet and 1 inches)

Minimum height required for Investigation Cadre

  • Male: 5’5” (5 feet and 5inches)

  1. Processes for selection

There are two stages consisting of various tests required for the selection of the eligible candidates.

Stage I: CBT is conducted which consists of MCQs.

Stage II:

  • Document Scrutiny
  • PMT or Physical Measurement Examination 
  • PST Physical Screening Examination

Physical measurement as well as physical screening, both the tests will be of qualifying nature.

  1. Stage 1: CBT

The computer-based exam consists of MCQ-type questions, provided in both Punjabi and English language.

The examination details are as follows:

  • Duration for examination: 3 hours
  • Total questions in the examination: 150
  • Maximum obtainable marks: 150

Punjab Police Intelligence Assistant & Constable Bharti Syllabus:

General Awareness (40 marks)- Legislation of the Central as well as State Government, Constitution of India, Government and Judicial Institutions, Geography, History, Economy and Culture of the country, Agriculture of Punjab and India, Science, Technology, and Current Affairs of the world as well as India.

Numerical Skills and Quantitative Aptitude (30 marks)- Simplification, Decimals & Fraction, Proportions and Ratios, Percentage, Average, Profit and Loss, Time, Work, Simple Interest, Line graphs, Bar graphs, Speed, Time & Distance, Number System, Mensuration.

Logical and Mental Ability (30 marks)- Number series, Letter series, Classification, Sequencing, Analogy, Coding, Decoding, Puzzles, Missing number, Verbal Reasoning, Statements, Conclusions, Non-verbal Reasoning, Pattern completion, Relationship problems, Direction, Distances, Ranking and Order.

English language (10 marks)- Skills in English Language which include reading comprehension, Translation, Phrase replacement, Para jumbles, close test, Sentence rearrangement, Sentence correction, Spotting errors, Fill in the blanks, Correction, Vocabulary.

Punjabi (10 marks)- Skills in Punjabi language including completion as well as structuring of sentences, error detection, Vocabulary, Translation, Reading Comprehension, Idioms, Phrases.

Computer Awareness and Digital Literacy (30 marks)- Computer fundamentals, Creation of directories, Internet, MS Office applications, WWW and Search engines, Sharing of videos and photos, Social Networking, Email, Mobile phones, Operating Systems, Hardware, Instant Messaging, OTT

Important Details:

  • The dates of examination for different sets of candidates shall vary as the format of the examination is computer based. The candidates need to attempt the test through computer.
  • Admit card will be issued to every candidate mentioning all the details regarding the examination. This Admit Card must be downloaded and printed by the candidates and brought to the centre of examination along with other required documents.

Criteria for Negative Marking

Negative marking is not there in the examination.


The Mean Standard Deviation method will be used for the normalization of the scores since the dates of examination; sets of candidates, as well as questions, are different. The following formula shall be used for the normalization.

Required Marks of Punjab Police Bharti

Minimum marks required to be obtained by candidates in the various categories such as Scheduled caste, EWS, Backward classes, and the ex-servicemen is 25% of the total marks. Candidates who belong to the rest of the categories are required to attain 30% of the total marks for the successful qualification to the next phase.

Seeking Objections and Answer Key

An answer key will be available to the candidates after completion of the CBT. It shall be provided in the portal and the candidates can able to check their answers. Any objection regarding the answers will cost 50Rs which will be refunded in case the objection sustains.


It is the candidate’s sole responsibility to check the portal regularly and stay updated with the processes. The candidates should not activate DND or Do Not Disturb function on their phones as information regarding various processes will be given to the candidates on their respective mobile numbers

Stage II: Document Verification, Physical measurement and Screening

After the completion of Stage I, candidates will be selected based on their merits and as per their respective category reservations. After the selection, the candidates are scheduled for the next stage that includes document scrutiny, a physical measurement examination, and a screening test.

Stage II Scheduling

The candidates selected for the next stage shall be informed regarding the same through the recruitment portal. They shall also be given a separate Admit Card that will mention the details of the next processes that include the document verification, and physical measurement, and screening.

Document Verification of Punjab Police IA & Constable Bharti

Selected candidates will be informed to bring the required document on the specified date and time and at the specified venue.

  1. Matriculation examination certificate as age proof.
  2. Graduation degree or certificate of equivalent degree. In case of Intelligence cadre, the required certificates specified above shall also be brought.
  3. Certificate for Punjabi language at Matriculation standard or equivalent to it.
  4. Certificate for reserved category issued by Competent Authority.
  5. NOC from HOD of Head of Office that are concerned for those serving as government employees.

The candidates who are able to bring certificates that match with the uploaded ones will be promoted to the next processes and those who fail to provide original certificates or if the certificates do not match the uploaded ones, will be disqualified or may also be subjected to legal actions in case of ambiguity. 

Physical Measurement

The heights of the candidates will be measured in this process and those, who are found to be of the required height will be selected for the Screening test.

Examination for Physical Screening

The Physical Screening Examination shall be of qualifying nature and will be the same for Intelligence Assistant in Intelligence Cadre and Constable in Investigation Cadre 

Male Candidates (Excluding ex-servicemen above 35years) 

  • 800m run within 4:00m (1 chance)
  • 2.75m Long Jump (3 chances)
  • 0.90m High Jump (3 chances)

Ex-Servicemen above 35years

  • 800m walk or run within 6:00m (1 chance)

Female Candidates

  • 400m run within 2:00 minutes (1 chance)
  • 1.80m Long Jump (3 chances)
  • 0.75m High Jump (3 chances)

Important Details:

  • Candidates must qualify each event in their respective category. A candidate will be disqualified by failure in even one event.
  • The qualification standards for both physical measurement and screening will be the same for the dependent child or wife of ex-servicemen as the candidates excluding ex-servicemen.
  • For ruling out the usage of drugs for performance enhancement, the candidates will be subjected to random testing. In such cases, biological samples must be provided by the candidates. Refusal to this can disqualify the candidate.

Application and appeals respected to Measurement and Screening Examination

The candidates will be able to appeal to the authorities regarding the results for the physical tests. They can appeal to the respected Chairperson, Central Board of Recruitment or the Appellate Authority. In this case, the decision given by the authority will be the final decision and the candidate cannot make more appeals. The authority however, shall provide the decision in written form.

List of Selection

On successful completion or qualification of the candidates in the CBT, PMT and PST, a list will be produced based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the CBT following the respective categories.

Process of forming the Merit List

Merit lists for both Intelligence Assistant in Intelligence Cadre and Constable in Investigation Cadre is prepared separately following the categories and reservations of the candidates. The merit list is prepared based on the normalization obtained and the choice of the cadre provided by the candidates is also kept in mind.

If two candidates score equal marks in CBT-

  • The senior candidate will be provided higher position in the list.
  • If the candidates score same marks and have similar date of births, the percentage in their graduation will be considered for ranking in the list.
  • If the candidates score same marks, have the same DOB as well as similar percentage of marks in graduation, the final merit list will be by prepared considering their marks in matriculation exam.
  1. Result Declaration

The final merit list or result will be uploaded on the portal as well as the official website of the Punjab Police.

  1. Mandatory Clearances

The candidates selected will be further subjected to –

12.1 Physical/Medical Examination

Prior to the enlistment, all the selected candidates must be certified medically or physically fit by a civil surgeon or Medical Officer/Board following the Annexure #12.16 of the Punjab Police Rules, 1934. This medical test must involve a SAT or Test for determining Substance Abuse. No relaxation is to be provided.

12.2 Antecedent Verification

As per the Punjab Police Act, 2007, Punjab Police Rules, 1934 and other instructions and rule of the Government, the characters as well as the antecedents must be checked for all the selected candidates following suggested procedures appointed by the appointing authority concerned. 

12.3 Certificate Verification

The various certificates will be verified by the respective authorities. The candidature will be in provisional until the certificates are not verified. If fake documents are identified, the candidature will be cancelled and legal actions may be taken.

12.4 Joining

The selected candidates will be appointed and will be kept on a probation period for three years. If any vacancy is left unfulfilled for whatsoever reason, it shall be carried to the next recruitment.

  • The Candidates are required to fill up the registration and then the Application form. After the submission of the application, payment needs to be made.
  • The candidates wishing to opt for both the cadres must fulfill the criteria of the both and mention their choices in the order of their preference in the application form. The choices once made, cannot be changed.
  • The candidates who provide only one post in their preference will not be considered for any other post even if they are eligible. Hence, the choices must be made wisely.
  • Candidates must follow the instructions carefully as incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • The e-mail addresses and other details must be filled correctly and carefully. They must also ensure that the mobile numbers and e-mail IDs provided are working. 
  • The candidates must keep all required documents and details ready before filling up the Application form. These include-

  • All the details must be filled correctly as the details once provided cannot be changed at any consequences.
  • The home district of the candidates is required to be declared in the application form.
  • Candidates must keep a hard copy of the application forms.
  • The candidates are considered provisionally eligible until and unless the verification of the documents is done. 
  • Document verification is done after the completion of the CBT. In case, a candidate is found not eligible during the document verification processes, he/she will be disqualified.
  • The use of unfair means to obtain candidature will be subjected to cancellation of the candidature and legal actions may also be taken.
  • Government employees must produce a No Objection Certificate or NOC from the respective authority before doing the application.
  • The application forms are advised to be submitted before the last date to prevent load or rush in the server. 
  • If a candidate submits more than one form, the last form submitted will be accepted.
  • The helpline number can be used in case of difficulty in downloading the admit card. The Registration ID will be required while contacting the Helpline number.
  • The candidates are required to undertake the responsibility of the genuineness of all the information that is provided by them. If wrong information is provided by any candidate, legal actions might be taken against him/ her.
