Know the pattern

Before preparing for any exam, it is imperative to know the pattern of that exam. Your strategy should be based on the type, level and tie allotted for that section. This exam is in offline mode i.e. you can go through all questions at once, scribble on the question and save your time. The written examination will consist of (Paper-I) objective type paper and (Paper-II) descriptive type.

There will be 120 minutes to solve 150 questions which are enough considering the level of the questions. All questions carry equal mark and there will be negative marking of 0.25 for each incorrect answer. The detailed pattern is as follows:

Complete your Syllabus

You should be thorough with the entire SSC MTS Exam Syllabus. Practice from books and learn every different type of questions that are being asked in this exam. Do not get carried away by tough questions. Keep in mind the level of difficulty if this exam.

Regular Study

You need to study daily for clearing this exam. The occasional study won’t let you anywhere near the cutoff. The seats are very less add the competition is very high. When devoting 2-3 hours daily can fetch you a job, there should not be any point of excuse.

Create a plan

General Awareness

Do not refer to multiple topics to study this section. Do not download any new stuff. Read your notes. We daily share the GK Updates.  Read the GK Updates of the last 4 months, from January 2017 to April 2017. Do not learn the numbers or figures. You should know the name of the important personalities, awards, honors, important events that took place in these four months. This whole current affairs exercise should not take your more than 1-2 hours for a month. So a maximum of 6 hours in a whole week you should devote to this.


It is important to know grammar and rules. A lot of questions are asked from fill in the blanks and error spotting. A good hold on grammar and vocabulary would easily sail you through the cut-off. Next important topic in English is One Word Substitution, Phrase Replacement/ Sentence Correction, Reading Comprehension of which almost 18 questions are asked. Numerical Aptitude

This is a very scoring section and the level of questions is also very basic. You need to be accurate in your calculations. The two important topics are Simplification and Interest. Simplification involves questions revolving around BODMAS technique.

Practice these questions and learn the concepts and basic fundamentals of divisibility, HCF, LCM, etc. Practice the questions which involve the application of multiple concepts. Learn all the important formulas. Questions where direct application of formulas is asked in MTS examination.

Reasoning Ability

It is very easy to score 10-12 marks in Reasoning Ability but to score 20+ marks, you need to practice. You need to learn which questions are to be attempted first and which ones are to be skipped. The questions are very easy and important topics include directions, coding-decoding, classification and Venn diagrams. However, to score 20+, practice from topics like series, blood relations, and puzzles. The best way to learn this section is through mock tests.
